Student of Character - Springfield Public School KISS Idol Contest
The Springfield Public School K.I.S.S. Idol Contest is heating up with students at public schools all across the city singing, dancing and showing off their other musical or artistic talents. Their early interest in the arts is helping show they are future Students of Character.
Student of Character - Weather Balloon Teaching Science & Math
Holyoke students recently participated in a weather balloon launch to help prepare them for the science and math portion of the MCAS exams.
Student of Character - Civil War Comes to Life
Springfield's Renaissance School students took a trip back in time to the Civil War era to get a better understanding of what life was like for people living in the 1860s. The lesson helped shape future Students of Character.
Student of Character - Alexandra French
Quaboag Regional's Alexandra French is a scholar and leader. Recently, she went to Michigan to deliver books and stuffed bears she helped gather through a school donation drive, which makes her a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Ashley Ripolone
Westfield's Ashley Ripolone has started a poverty awareness club at her high school called Differences. The group has helped raise money to send to other countries, such as Haiti and China, which is why she is a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Maggie Pratte
Southwick Tolland Regional High School's Maggie Pratte is described as an A student both in and out of the classroom. Her willingness to help others with an upbeat attitude is something that pleases her teachers and helps make her a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Girls Only Math Classes
Some female students at Bellamy Middle School have been taking advantage of learning about math with no boys allowed. The setting is designed to allow the female students to be in an environment that makes their learning easier. The voluntary program is helping the students enhance their math skills, which is producing future Students of Character.
Student of Character - Kids in Print
The Republican newspaper's annual writing contest, Kids in Print, focused on the issue of school bullying. Students wrote essays and drew pictures on the topic and what can prevent bullying, and for that they're Students of Character.
Student of Character - Sarah Mickel
West Springfield's Sarah Mickel saw some of her classmates may have been in need of some fashion help, but didn't have a lot of money. She opened Terrier's Closet, and it has helped provide students without a lot of financial resources to dress for success in school. For that, she's a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Teacher of Character
E. N. White Elementary School teacher Carole Gamache has been teaching second grade students for four decades. Her experience and commitment in the classroom makes her a Teacher of Character.
Student of Character - Tyler Limoges
Holyoke Catholic's Tyler Limoges went to Africa to help students there with their English, but he also learned a lot and has become more focused on his future. A teacher that went with Tyler said his interaction with students there demonstrated why he is a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Alicia LaFountain
Gateway Regional High School's Alicia LaFountain has been fighting an uphill battle to get ahead as a single mother trying to graduate high school while living in foster care. However, she's working through difficult circumstances and is focused in furthering her education, while also taking time to help with recycling efforts and her school's gay and straight alliance.
Student of Character - Anaralis Cintron
Westfield Voke student Anaralis Cintron is focused and knows what she wants when she leaves high school. Her work in Student Council and community service have helped her excel, and she hopes to keep her momentum going into college, which makes her a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Kelsey Mantoni
West Springfield High School's Kelsey Mantoni gets good grades and hopes to pursue a career in the medical field. She plays sports, president of the school's chapter of the National Honor Society and, most importantly, has a good attitude. These qualities make her a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Joe Dziok
Cathedral's Joe Dziok has a passion for music, but also finds time to be a youth pastor. He intends to continue studying music, and his ambitious spirit makes him a role model for his peers. It also makes him a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Marissa Josub
Marissa Josub gets active in her community and still has time to play sports at Frontier Regional High School. The call to volunteerism for the aspiring fashion stylist has even brought her to Honduras, which gives her the makings of a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Michelle Lopez
Michelle Lopez, a native of the Dominican Republic, came to Holyoke Catholic High School while still learning English. She overcame that obstacle to go on to be in a position to help other students with their language skills and has demonstrated the traits of a Student of Character.
Student of Character - Shalene Monroe
Putnam High School's Shalene Monroe is scoring high in the classroom and in athletics. Her hard work and leadership skills make her a Student of Character.
Students of Character - Holiday Card Drive a Success
2,658 cards were handed out thanks to a group of Smith Vocational Technical High School in Northampton. They're work has made others know they're not forgotten around the holidays and helps make these Students of Character.
Student of Character - Academy Hill Leadership Forum
Students at Academy Hill School in Springfield had the opportunity to interview local politicians and business leaders. The leadership forums will give the students the chance to learn from the successful interviewees to make themselves future Students of Character.
Student of Character - Smith Voke Students Making Holidays Brighter
Students at Smith Vocational Technical High School in Northampton are making cards to be given to patients at local hospitals and shut-ins to help the people enjoy their holidays. They're exhibiting the traits of Students of Character.

Holyoke students are taking part in peace week, and, as part of it, some students have demonstrated their character through putting together artistic displays to promote peace.

Students in the fifth grade in Southampton have been collecting pennies to send to children in other countries to help them succeed, while also exhibiting the traits of Students of Character.

He graduated from Cathedral High School and is appreciative of the opportunity he has been given, and is also taking full advantage of it. Now that kids across Western Massachusetts are back to school, abc40, The Republican newspaper and Big Y Worldclass Markets will be bringing another exciting year of programs and Students of Character.
Students of Character - This Year's Winners!
Out of over 25 students from this year's Students of Character program, Miguel Vasquez of Cathedral High School and Troy Scammon from White Oak School in Westfied have been selected as the big winners. They will receive a scholarship to American International College.
