HOLYOKE, Mass. (abc40) -- Holyoke Police arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a women, kicked a police officer and threw himself down a flight of stairs, according to police.
At 5:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to 87 Newton St., on an unknown medical call, according to Police Chief Anthony Scott. Upon arrival the officers heard screaming from inside the address and people were gathered outside, police said.
The officers entered and allegedly observed Julius Taylor, 29, of 68 Newton St., Holyoke, at the top of the staircase yelling at someone inside a room, according to police.
When Taylor would not calm down or stop yelling, police approached him and handcuffed him after a brief struggle, according to police. Taylor continued to yell, scream and argue with others inside the residence and even told police he was wanted in Florida, police said.
Another officer came to the bottom of the staircase and attempted to calm down a female who was also yelling and screaming, according to police. When Officers attempted to escort the suspect out police said Taylor allegedly threw himself down the stairs.
The Officer who was at the bottom of the stairs went to pick up Taylor and was allegedly kicked in the face, police said. Even though Taylor was handcuffed, he allegedly fought with the officers and caused an officer to injure him thumb, police said.
Taylor fought and struggled with the officers and smashed his own head against the walls and other objects in the house, according to police. After Taylor was put in the cruiser, officers learned that a woman, who was inside the apartment prior to their arrival, was in the hospital from injuries she allegedly received from Taylor, according to police.
Taylor has been arrested two times before his most recent arrest for possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, destruction of property and default warrants, according to Scott.
Taylor will be charged with two accounts of default warrants, a warrant of being a fugitive from justice, threatening to commit a crime, resisting arrest, destruction of property, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and two counts of domestic assault and battery.
