HOLYOKE, Mass. (abc40) -- Seven people have been arrested on numerous charges after the city police department responded to the complaints of area residents about drug activity.

Based on numerous complaints from neighbors, detectives from the Holyoke Police Department Narcotics and Vice Division set up surveillance in the areas of Appleton and Chestnut streets and South East and Hamilton streets, according to Police Chief Anthony Scott.   

Seven people were arrested for allegedly being involved in illegal drug transactions on the street in plain view, police said. Six of the seven arrested were from Holyoke, while one was from Chicopee.

Police allegedly confiscated 36 baggies of heroin and 17 baggies of crack cocaine, which have a combined street value of $530, as well as $263 in cash. 

Lucy Quinonez, 41, of 370 Maple St., Holyoke, Eleen Garcia, 43, of 100 Debra St., Chicopee, and Abel Colon, 32, of North Summer St., Holyoke, will all be charged with possession of a class A drug, according to police.

Francisco Resto, 43, of 91 Mosher St., Holyoke, will be charged with distribution of a class A drug and violation of a drug-free school zone.

Pura Foresty, 52, of 2 James St., Holyoke, will be charged with possession and distribution of a class A drug and a violation of a drug-free school zone.

John Albelo, 19, of 129 Walnut St., Holyoke, and Andres Ferrer-Aguilar, 27, of 68 Linden St., Holyoke, will be charged with possession and distribution of a class A drug, possession and distribution of a class B drug and a violation of a drug-free school zone.

Quinonez, Ferrer-Aguilar, Garcia and Colon were released on personal recognizance, while Albelo was ordered held $1,000 bail and Foresty and Resto were ordered held on $5,000 bail, according to police.
