HOLYOKE, Mass. (abc40) -- At just 21 years old, Brendan Ciecko has his own company, his own office, and his clients? Their names make up many of our latest i-Pod playlists.
Ciecko started his digital design, marketing and branding company, Ten Minute Media, when he was just 12 years old. Over the years he built up his portfolio with no-name bands, but it was after his freshman year at Hampshire College that a big name entered the mix.
"I got a call from Mick Jagger's manager who said, 'Mick saw your work, he loves it, he'd love to set up a meeting,'" said Cieko.
It's only been uphill from there.
Ciecko may have been born in the city with the second largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the country, but luck is hardly what got him this far.
"If you work hard, you're willing to take risks in an entrepreneurial sense, and you're willing to create something bigger than yourself I think you'll be in good shape," said Ciecko.
Ciecko's certainly in good shape. That's why he's turning his focus towards the city of Holyoke, working with others to revitalize the downtown area and turn it into what he calls an "entrepreneurial energy box."
"I live here, I work here, I walk to work, I own a couple of buildings and I'm really trying to inject life into different blocks, different neighborhoods," said Ciecko.
When it comes to giving back to his city, Ciecko summarizes his reasoning in a simple hip-hop lyric.
"I'm loyal to my soil," he says.
