HOLYOKE, Mass. (abc40) -- Holyoke police captured a 23-year-old Holyoke man with three warrants out for his arrest early Thursday morning allegedly with a loaded stolen handgun.
Shaka Bunch, of 16 Cabot St., faces 13 charges, including resisting arrest, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and disorderly conduct.
Bunch was detained after Holyoke Police were summoned to the Mambo Club at 497 High St. A large crowd had gathered outside the nightclub, which has been the site of numerous calls for police in the last couple months, according to police.
The crowd dispersed from the area after police arrived, but officers noticed two men gathering in a nearby alley. An officer walked towards the men, but the men allegedly took off on foot. Holyoke Police say as the officer detained Bunch, something was thrown at the officer, which was later found to be a stolen 9 mm handgun. In the commotion, the second suspect escaped, according to police.
Beer, cocaine, a stolen fully loaded semi-automatic pistol and a fully loaded magazine for the stolen firearm were allegedly confiscated by Holyoke Police.
Shaka Bunch was scheduled for arraignment on charges stemming from the incident Thursday.
Holyoke Police Chief Anthony Scott says Bunch is a career criminal.
"The firearm was stolen from Maine and the arrestee had warrants for his arrest out of Florida for failure to appear on drug charges. The arrestee has a criminal record in the states of Florida, Louisiana, and Massachusetts," states Scott in a release about the arrest.
