SUFFIELD, Conn. (abc40) -- On Sunday, the town of Suffield and hundreds of volunteers and supporters said, "Welcome home Hill family."
"It seemed like millions of people on the street," said Catherine Hill, "people crying along with us, people smiling, people cheering, people excited."
"I just remember standing there like, oh my God," said Sonya Hill. "I didn't know what to expect."
The family of 13 was cramped in their old home, a one-story ranch damaged by a fire in 1993. In it's place, now sits a 5,000 square foot federal-style home.
"It was too small," said Catherine Hill, "We were on top of one another. Now we're on top of the world."
The house includes 15 rooms, a finished basement and a backyard complete with a basketball court and terrace, but the giving hardly stops there.
Local businesses donated everything from gift cards, to dinners, to clothes and jewelry.
In addition, Rockville bank has set up a fund that will be open through the air date of the show in an effort to raise money for the Hill family and help them pay off their mortgage.
A coalition of six schools, including Bay Path College, AIC and Wilbraham-Monson Academy gave scholarships worth over $300,000 not just to the children, but William and Catherine Hill as well.
"As they said, Bill and Catherine said, their biggest regret is that they never completed their education, so we were thrilled to be able to do this," said Carol Leary, President of Bay Path College.
It's the start of a new beginning for the Hill family. A real-life dream come true.
"We're just happy to be home," said Catherine Hill.
