MONSON, Mass. (WGGB) -- A Wales man has died after an early morning motorcycle accident on Moulton Hill Road Monday after he lost control of the vehicle, according to police.

Police received a 911 call for the accident around 4 a.m., according to a statement from Monson Police Chief Stephen Kozloski, and officers responded to the area of 62 Moulton Hill Road.

Police were able to locate the man who had been driving the motorcycle on the ground on the northbound lane of the street, according to Kozloski. He was brought to Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer, where he was pronounced dead. Police have identified the operator as 45-year-old Joseph Keifer of Wales.

"A preliminary investigation reveals that the motorcycle, a 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan 750,  was traveling north on Moulton Hill Road when the operator entered a slight curve in the roadway and lost control," states the chief, who added the man had been wearing a helmet and the motorcycle never left the road.

The accident remained under investigation Monday morning with local and state police.
