Springfield cops bust three alleged gang members for dealing crack

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) -- Three alleged gang members have been arrested on drug charges Monday after police allegedly witnessed them sell crack cocaine from a Jeep in the Eastern Avenue area of the city.

According to police, Christopher Collins, 17, of 121 Tyler St.; Robert Owens, 20, of 291 Tyler St.; and Karlena Pitters, 18, of 18 Wilmont St., were all taken into custody after police caught up wiht them at the intersection of Wilbraham and Lakeside streets around noon. Officers allegedly found crack cocaine concealed in a cigarette box and in the the pants of one of the suspects in addition to $110 in cash.

The arrests come as the result of a Springfield Police Department Narcotics Division and Gang Unit surveillance operation conducted in the neighborhood, which police consider to have a high crime rate.
