AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) -- A 26-year-old Belchertown man is facing charges stemming from an alleged Sunday afternoon home invasion in the Townehouse of Amherst apartments, according to police.
Jayson R. Stinson, of 21 Old Amherst Road, Apartment B, was arrested for home invasion, breaking and entering during the daytime while putting a person in fear and malicious destruction of property valued over $250, according to police. He has been ordered held on $1,000 cash bail following an arraignment in Eastern Hampshire District Court.
According to police, officers responded to the apartment complex shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday for a report of a home invasion. A 20-year-old man and woman there allegedly told police Stinson forced his way into the home while armed with a knife and threatened the two, who have been identified as a resident of the home and his girlfriend. Stinson had already left the apartment, but allegedly smashed the window's of the girl's car with a metal folding chair outside, according to police.
The incident may have stemmed from an argument over money, according to police, but it remained under investigation Tuesday.
Stinson was taken into custody a little over an hour after the incident was reported in the Colonial Village Apartments, according to police. A knife has also been recovered, they added.
