CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - Senate candidate Stephen Pagliuca (pah-lee-OOH'-kah) says his fellow Democrat and the man he's trying to replace in the U.S. Senate, Edward Kennedy, aired "inaccurate" ads against Republican Mitt Romney in 1994.
The ads criticized Pagliuca's former boss at Bain Capital for layoffs that occurred at Ampad, a Marion, Ind., company acquired by Bain.
Pagliuca told The Associated Press during an interview Monday that it was inaccurate of Kennedy to focus on one place where jobs were lost rather than the total jobs created by Bain. He says Romney did not respond quickly enough to the criticism.
It allowed Kennedy to fend off the sternest re-election challenge of his nearly 47-year career.
Pagliuca says he will "fight tooth & nail" if he faces similar criticism.
Kennedy died Aug. 25 of brain cancer.
Pagliuca is 1 of 4 Democrats seeking the seat.
