SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) -- An arrest was made Friday morning after a man allegedly attempted to rape a woman in his Sumner Avenue apartment, according to Springfield Police Department Sgt. John Delaney.
The 29-year-old woman was walking down Sumner Avenue when a male standing on his porch allegedly asked her if she’d like a cigarette. The woman agreed and then asked the man if she could use his phone to call her boyfriend, according to police.
The man agreed and once the female was in his apartment, he allegedly attacked her and attempted to rape her, according to reports.
The woman escaped from the attack and went to the Sunoco station to seek help, according to police. There was an officer patrolling that particular area who assisted the woman and began the search for her alleged attacker, according to Delaney.
Cody Santos, 19, of 796 Sumner Ave., was arrested in his apartment for the alleged assault this morning, according to police. He is being charged with kidnapping, assault with intent to rape and indecent assault and battery, according to reports.
Santos has been scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Friday.
