HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) -- The day after a massive apartment fire in Holyoke, there was an outpouring of support from the community. The fire that devastated 103 Lyman St., displaced over forty people and sent six people to the hospital.
As word spread about the loss the day before Christmas Eve, help arrived to the fire scene by the carload on Thursday afternoon. Todd Calkins and his wife brought clothes, coats and even games for the victims.
"We want to help the families," said Calkins who is a South Hadley firefighter and was on the scene Wednesday night.
Dawn Fortin of Ludlow also reached out.
"My heart goes out to all those who lost everything, it's Christmas," she said.
Fortin used to own a daycare. She brought a truckload of toys, clothes and blankets for the victims.
