SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WGGB) -- South Hadley school officials say bullies at the high school will be disciplined.

Disciplinary hearings continue to find out who was responsible for bullying 15-year-old Phoebe Prince who took her own life three weeks ago.

School Superintendent Gus Sayer told the school committee Thursday night that Phoebe Prince was the victim of bullying.

"In the weeks prior to Phoebe's death, a small number of students in two unrelated groups began to harass Phoebe by indicating their dislike of her and making vulgar comments at her," said Sayer.

High School Principal Daniel Smith tells abc40 that the internal investigation is continuing and that the small group of students responsible for violating the school's disciplinary code will face serious consequences that can include, suspension, expulsion, or referral to the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, concerned residents like Dave Leonard feel school officials haven't acted quickly enough. There will be an anti-bullying task force meeting on Feb. 23, and Dave Leonard says the community can make a difference.

"We can't have a tragedy like this in South Hadley, or anywhere else in the country, it has to be handled, it can be handled easily but people have to be willing to make the effort and take the actions to do that," said Leonard.
