SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) -- The violence in Springfield continues as the city marks its fourth murder of the year.
According to Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney, 21-year-old Nicholas Hiller was in the middle of a drug deal at the corner of Sylvan and Taft Streets around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, when he was shot through the open window of his car. Police say Hiller panicked and drove away from the scene, but either passed out or died at the wheel, crashing into a fence and parked car at 32 Woodlawn Street.
This marks Springfield's third murder in a week. Last Saturday, 17-year-old Conor Reynolds was stabbed and killed at the Blue Fusion Bar and Grill. That same day, another man was killed in a domestic stabbing at Robert Dyer Circle.
For Neal Williams, who's lived at the corner of Taft and Woodlawn Streets for over 10 years, this latest murder hits too close to home.
"It used to be where grown-ups would fight fist to fist and next day you were friends, but now it's like a blanket of kids killing kids," said Williams.
With two teenage children, Williams says this latest act of violence will have him keeping a closer eye on the neighborhood.
"No matter how old they are you gotta be on guard for whatever happens," said Williams.
Williams refused to let the continuous violence scare him out of Springfield.
No arrests have been made in this latest murder, it remains under investigation.
