SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) -- Police are looking for the public's help with information after a man was found stabbed to death near his Berkshire Avenue home early Sunday morning.
Around 3:15 a.m. Sunday, police had been called to 719 Berkshire Ave., for a report of a man that had been stabbed, according to Springfield Police Capt. Eugene Dexheimer. He said that when officers arrived, they found a man in the rear parking lot of the building, near a stair well, suffering from a number of stab wounds and not breathing. The victim had been declared dead at the scene.
Police Monday identified the man as 22-year-old Andre Niles, who had lived at the Berkshire Avenue address.
Investigators have determined Niles had been stabbed in the stairwell of the building on its third floor, according to police.
The department's homicide and detective bureaus had been called in and have been actively investigating what has become the city's 10th murder of 2010. Police said investigators have been following up on several leads, however they had no description of a suspect and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday.
A man who identified himself as Niles' neighbor Monday said he seemed like a nice guy, and was disturbed to see his body in the parking lot on the night of the stabbing. He said the stabbing had made him consider moving out of the building.
Police are asking that if anyone has any information to call the Springfield Police Detective Bureau at (413) 787-6355. People may also anonymously use the department's Text-a-Tip program by sending a message to "CRIMES" (274637), type "SOLVE" and then a tip, and hitting "SEND."
