SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) -- A man police have dubbed a "notorious shoplifter" has been arrested and they are sending out his photo with hopes of making his face known to store owners to prevent future thefts.

James Curtis Jones, 47, of 33 Salem St., Springfield, was arrested around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday on a shoplifting charge at the CVS store located at 600 State St., according to police. Police allege Jones attempted to take $26 worth of condoms, soap, batteries and other items totaling more than $100 while a city police officer was in the store on a security detail.

The officer caught Jones after an alarm sounded when he attempted to walk out of the store, according to police.

In addition to his most recent arrest, police said Jones had three warrants for his arrest for other shoplifting charges.
