If you're looking for a local forecaster, you've found one. Born in Southwick, Mass., and currently residing in Northern Connecticut, abc40 Meteorologist Eric Fisher has always called New England home. In fact, it's local weather history that drew Eric to the field of Meteorology. Most notably, Memorial Day of 1995 when an infamous tornado ripped through Great Barrington, Mass. Watching The Weather Channel, warnings scrolling and meteorologists showing active radar screens, he realized his calling at a young age. Now Eric's days are spent conveying accurate forecasts on the very station he grew up watching! He also dabbles in reporting as the lead Environmental Reporter at abc40, and co-anchors abc40 News This Morning alongside Faye Hoffman. You can catch Eric's forecasts on abc40 news this morning from 5:00 to 9 a.m., and on abc40 news at noon.
Abc40 is Eric's first venture into broadcasting. His tenure began in May 2006, shortly after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Albany. There he received a bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Science from one of the strongest programs in the country. While in Albany, Eric held a position at the National Weather Service where he learned one thing: it really is harder than it looks, so be kind to your local weatherman!
Technically, Eric's career began in middle school when he held the "Weatherman" position during a video broadcasting class. But, he's certainly come a long way since then. Whether it's delivering a forecast with a smile each weekday morning, reporting on environmental stories that affect people's lives or offering the weekly "Growing Cents" series on gardening, he says he truly enjoys his job day in and day out, and hopes that those sentiments come across each time you tune in!
During his spare time, you'll generally find Eric outdoors. Biking, hiking the trails of the Northeast, going for a run or just taking a trip to the beach are all at the top of Eric "to-do" list. Throw in some golf, baseball or playing guitar and that's about it!
