SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (abc40) -- Leaders of the now-closed Springfield MSPCA announced Thursday the building has been sold to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society.

The Union Street location of the MSPCA was closed in March, however Dakin's recent purchase of the building will allow it to continue as an animal adoption center. The building was sold for $1.2 million, however it was built for $11 million.

Dakin officials have announced they will be closing their Greenfield facility. Dakin currently operates an adoption center in Leverett, which will remain open.
