MONTAGUE, Mass. (abc40) -- August Siena Thomas is one of 20 people to be honored as a Davison Fellow this year.  She is being award a $25,000 scholarship for her achievement in the field of literature.  She says she'll use that money for graduate studies.

August is entering her senior year at Commonwealth College, which is the honors college at the University of Massachusetts. She just finished writing her historical novel, The Other England, which is set in the 15th century.  It's taken her five years to write it. She used selections from that novel in her winning portfolio.

August was homeschooled by her mother at the age of 9. She enrolled at UMass at 14 and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa her junior year.

She will get her degree with majors in linguistics, the ancient world and Italian this May, two months after turning 18.

She says she wants to be a historical novelist and may also become a professor.
