Mike Leslie is abc40 & FOX 6’s Sports Director, anchoring and reporting on weeknights at 6, 10, and 11. He is excited to be a part of the sports team providing the best coverage of Western Massachusetts high school sports. Friday Football Fever and Above the Rim are easily Mike’s favorite parts about working at abc40. During his time at the station, Mike has been nominated for multiple AP Awards for his stories about local high school & college athletes, as well as Friday night coverage on FFF and ATR.
Mike is a native of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and a graduate of Hofstra University. While at Hofstra, Mike worked for the campus radio station, WRHU. Mike was the Sports Director at WRHU for two years, leading the department in its coverage of Hofstra sports, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, baseball, softball and several others.
During his time at WRHU, Mike was the lead play-by-play voice for Hofstra sports, handling football, men’s basketball, and men’s lacrosse for his final two years at WRHU.
During Mike’s time on Long Island, he also had several internships with media in the New York City area, including NBC Sports’ Sunday Night Football, and 1050 ESPN Radio.
His start in the field came as a senior in high school, working for WXXA-TV, Fox23, in Albany, N.Y.
Mike last worked for Cablevision, working with MSG Varsity, covering high school sports in the metropolitan area.
Mike has won several awards during his collegiate sports journalism career, including the Collegiate Broadcasters, Inc. award for Best Sports Reporting. In the same competition, Mike was a finalist for Best Sports Play-by-Play.
Also, Mike was rated as high as 11th in the STAA All-American Competition, rating National Collegiate Sportscasters on overall ability.
When he’s not on the air at WGGB, Mike can be found on the golf course, playing hoops, or working out.
