(ABC) – The 2013 Golden Globes Awards honored Hollywood Sunday night, with “Les Miserables” as the top winner, with three awards.

That was followed by “Argo,” which won two awards for best director, Ben Affleck, and best picture. “Django Unchained” also tied with two awards.

On the television side, “Game Change” and “Homeland” took home three awards, followed by “Girls” with two.

The first award of the 70th annual Golden Globes Awards went to best supporting actor Christoph Waltz.

Looking clean shaven and buzzed, in contrast to the bounty hunter character he plays in “Django Unchained,” Waltz thanked director Quentin Tarantino. “You entrusted me with this character and took me on a journey,” he said.

After thanking the producers and fell cast members, he pointed to Tarantino and borrowed a line from his character, saying “The North Star is that one. Ta da.”

Best supporting actress, TV series drama: Maggie Smith, ‘Downton Abbey’

Smith was not at the ceremony to accept her award.

Best TV movie/miniseries: ‘Game Change’

The creator of the HBO film thanked Julianne Moore for her performance as Sarah Palin. “Now with you and Tina Fey we have three of the best impersonations of Sarah Palin, including Sarah Palin,” he said.

Best Actress in TV movie/miniseries: Julianne Moore, ‘Game Change’

“My children will be so relieved,” Moore said. “This was one of my favorite jobs, ever. …. “We laughed so hard every day.” Moore gave a shout out to Tina Fey and Katie Couric.

Best TV series, drama: ‘Homeland’

For a second year in a row, “Homeland” took home the Golden Globe for best dramatic series. The creator of the show told the audience just how hard the cast worked, especially star Claire Danes, whom he recalled being eight months pregnant while being chased on the set with a steel pipe by another character.

Best original song: ‘Skyfall’ by Adele

Adele made one of her first public appearances since giving birth to her son to accept the Golden Globe for best original song. “Oh my God,” the British pop star exclaimed. “I come out for a night out, with my friend. We’re literally having mums night out. I never expected to win.” Adele dedicated her award to her boyfriend and the baby’s father, Simon Konecki, who she said “convinced” her to do the Bond theme song.

Best actor in TV movie/miniseries: Kevin Costner, “Hatfield & McCoys

“A short walk and a long career,” Kevin Costner said, accepting his award and recalling his first time walking the red carpet at the Globes as a new actor. “I was just walking and hoping to have some kind of a career,” he said. “It’s been a great ride.”

Best actress in comedy/musical: Jennifer Lawrence, “Silver Linings Playbook”

Lawrence looked at her award as she accepted it and said, “What does it say? I beat Meryl,” she joked about Streep, who was up for the same award. After thanking director David O. Russell and her co-stars, she thanked producer Harvey Weinstein for “killing whoever you had to kill to get me up here today.” Lawrence got emotional as she thanked her family: her mother who supported her even though “people said you were crazy,” her father, who taught her to laugh and her brothers who were “mean” but ultimately supportive.

Best supporting actor in TV series/movie/miniseries: Ed Harris, “Game Change”

“Blurg — thanks for that word Tina,” Anne Hathaway said on stage, looking incredibly composed in her white Chanel shift. “Thank you for this lovely blunt object that I will forever use against self doubt.” Hathaway singled out Sally Field, who was also up for the award, for providing proof that she could get beyond typecasting as the good-girl princess. “How encouraing it was to know that the flying nun grew up to be Norma Rae,” she said.

Best original screenplay: Quentin Tarantino for ‘Django Unchained’

“I wasn’t expecting this,” Tarantino said, accepting his award. “This was a surprise. Damn.”

Best actor, TV series/miniseries: Don Cheadle, ‘House of Lies’

Don Cheadle was equally surprised for his win in the new Showtime series. “I love you, I love you, I love you,” he said to his longtime partner Bridgid Coulter.

Best foreign film: ‘Amour’ from Austria

In accepting his award from Arnold Schwarzenegger, director Michael Haneke said, “I never sought to get an award in Hollywood by an Austrian.”

Best actress, TV series, drama: Claire Danes, ‘Homeland’

Danes is four for four, having won every Globe she’s been nominated for. “I have to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for being so insanely generous to me for so long,” she said, thanking everyone at “Homeland,” whom she said was supportive even after she told them she was expecting. She also thanked her newborn son, Cyrus Dancy, for “joining me throughout the process of fighting terrorism.”

Best animated feature: ‘Brave’

Best actress, TV series, comedy: Lena Dunham, ‘Girls’

“Girls” creator and actress Lena Dunham thanked her fellow nominees, including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, for getting her through “middle school” and “mono.” Dunham also called Judd Apatow “the greatest honorary ‘Girl,’ and said, “This award is for everyone who feels like there wasn’t a place for her. This show made a space for me.”

Best director, Ben Affleck, ‘Argo’

In one of the biggest surprises of the night, Ben Affleck took the prize for best director, even though he was left out of the nominees in the same category for the Academy Awards. “I don’t care what the award is, to even be in the same breath as the other nominees,” he said. Among those he thanked, Affleck singled out his three children and the “love of his life” Jennifer Garner.

Best TV comedy series/miniseries: ‘Girls’

It was a major night for “Girls.” On the night of second season premiere, the HBO series nabbed the trophy for best comedy. Creator Lena Dunham grabbed the trophy and screamed: “It took a village to raise this very demented child,” she said.

Best actor, comedy/musical: Hugh Jackman, ‘Les Miserable’

Hugh Jackman saved his biggest thank you for his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness: “Baby, thank you for always being right.”

Best motion picture, comedy/musical: ‘Les Miserable’

Best actress, drama: Jessica Chastain, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’

Accepting her award, Jessica Chastain called out director Kathryn Bigelow: “I can’t help but compare my character of Maya to you. … When you make a film that allows your character to disobey the conventions of Hollywood, you’ve done more for women in cinema than you take credit for.” Bigelow, who won an Oscar for “The Hurt Locker,” was snubbed by this year’s Academy Awards for best director.

Best actor, drama: Daniel Day-Lewis, ‘Lincoln’

Serious thespian Daniel Day-Lewis showed off his humor when accepting his award. “Are you sure there’s room for another ex-president on the stage?” he joked, referring to former President Bill Clinton’s earlier surprise visit to the stage. Day-Lewis also joked that the Queen of England was about to parachute in to make a lastditch pitch for “Skyfall.” But he was serious in his thank yous to director Steven Spielberg, writer Tony Kushner and his wife Rebecca Miller.

Best motion picture, drama: ‘Argo’

Score another for ‘Argo.’ After director Affleck was snubbed by the Oscars, the film recieved the Golden Globe for best picture.

When well-meaning but somewhat dim Arbie returns to the spot of his first (and only) romantic encounter with his high school sweetheart — the not-so-romantic Ancient Tromahawk Tribe Indian Burial Ground — he is shocked to discover two horrible realities: Not only has the graveyard been bulldozed to make room for the newest fast-food “American Chicken Bunker” chain restaurant, but after only one semester at college, his girlfriend Wendy has been transformed into a left-wing, lipstick-lesbian liberal, and spends her free time protesting the corporate takeover of America. Reeling from heartbreak and a brutal beating from Micki, Wendy’s new activist girlfriend, Arbie channels his spite into applying for a job at the very restaurant they are protesting against. But something else is feeling wronged by all of the construction and commotion–something not human. Meanwhile, Arbie and his colorful co-workers slowly uncover the supernatural secret of the American Chicken Bunker, while the owner General Lee Roy tries to keep a lid on the scandal, lest it taint his growing empire. But once workers and customers start dying in bizarre and grotesque ways, it becomes clear that this isn’t just a mild case of salmonella, but something much more FOWL. Will Arbie and his friends stop the demons before they infect all the artificial foodstuffs, the customers, and the world beyond? Will Arbie be able to win Wendy back now that he’s making minimum wage? What’s Carl Jr. doing with that frozen chicken? And what’s with all the singing and dancing?

Synopsis:

It’s 1969, and Elliot Tiber, a down-on-his-luck interior designer in Greenwich Village, New York, has to move back upstate to help his parents run their dilapidated Catskills motel, The El Monaco. The bank’s about to foreclose; his father wants to burn the place down, but hasn’t paid the insurance; and Elliot is still figuring how to come out to his parents. When Elliot hears that a neighboring town has pulled the permit on a hippie music festival, he calls the producers, thinking he could drum up some much-needed business for the motel. Three weeks later, half a million people are on their way to his neighbor’s farm in White Lake, N.Y., and Elliot finds himself swept up in a generation-defining experience that would change his life, and American culture, forever. The film features a standout ensemble cast and songs from a score of ’60s musical icons, including The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane and Country Joe and the Fish — plus a new recording of “Freedom” from Richie Havens.
