College Scholarship for Pine Point Seniors

The Pine Point Community Council is pleased to announce that it will be awarding a $250 Yolly Nahorniak College Scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded to college-bound high school seniors who are Pine Point residents. This will be the fifth year that the Pine Point Community Council has awarded a scholarship to a deserving student.

The PPCC decided that the scholarship should be dedicated in memory of Yolanda “Yolly” Nahorniak, who founded the Pine Point Community Council in her basement over 35 years ago. Throughout the years, Yolly was instrumental in dealing with quality of life issues, advocating for her beloved seniors and was considered the voice for Pine Point. Yolly passed away in 2009.

Scholarship applications are available at the Pine Point Community Council office located at 335 Berkshire Avenue in Springfield or online at www.pinepointcouncil.com. Donations for the Yolly Nahorniak College Scholarship can be sent to 335 Berkshire Avenue, Springfield, MA 01109. The deadline is May 31, 2013.

A fundraising event for the South Hadley Memorial Day Parade Committee to expand and better honor our troops and veterans. A portion of our proceeds will also be donated to a memorial scholarship in memory of Peter Krasnor, the late South Hadley High School Athletic Trainer who passed suddenly last year and loved all things athletic!

We will also donate a portion of our proceeds to the One Fund Boston in wake of the recent tragedy in Boston. ♥ Run Strong. Boston Strong. ♥

The 8th Annual Berkshire International Film Festival announces the line-up to the action packed program showcasing over 75 of the latest in independent feature, documentary, short and family films from some 20 countries. The festival, which takes place from May 30-June 2, 2013 in Great Barrington and May 31-June 2 in Pittsfield, MA, will bring films, filmmakers, industry professionals and film fans together for a 4-day Festival celebrating independent film featuring 27 documentaries, 25 narrative features and 24 short films. BIFF was recently chosen as one of Yankee Magazine’s “Top 20″ events in Massachusetts.

This year’s films are from around the world reflecting our ever-changing, ever-growing, and ever-hopeful global community.

This Cruise Night is free to the public. It is brought to you by the Stars and Stripes Car Club! It is held in the back parking lot of the Soldiers Home in Holyoke. It runs twice a Month Starting May 4. We will be having Classic Cars and Hot Rods, Motorcycles and nice Cars too! Food and Raffles are for sale as well as Tshirts for the event. Fantasy Themed Benefit Gala for Shriner’s Hospital Planned

A Dare to Dream Evening of Fantasy and Fun to benefit the local Shriner’s Children’s Hospital is scheduled for June 8, 2013. The evening will be fantasy themed and costumes are optional. Food for the event will be prepared by the Chef’s Consortium; a NY based group of notable chefs who are committed to local, farm to table offerings. The Consortium will be seeking one or two local chefs to join them.

Entertainment will be provided by a local four piece pop rock band Maxxtone who feature live band karaoke as part of their gig.

A goods and services” dreamer’s auction” with donations from local business’ and individuals is also planned. The Boston Red Sox have promised an autographed item.

Easthampton Mayor Michael Tauznik has proclaimed June 8th 2013 Dare to Dream Day in Easthampton.

The Massachusetts Prostate Cancer Coalition, in collaboration with the Springfield YMCA’s MOCHA program will be hosting a Men’s Health Symposium on June 12th at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC). The purpose of the program will be to highlight the ongoing activities of the MOCHA program and to help strengthen the relationship of Mass Prostate Cancer Coalition with community organizations in Western Mass. The program is free and open to the public, but we are encouraging everyone to register to monitor our numbers. Lunch will be provided. The keynote speaker is Dr. Christopher Lathan, of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO PLAY WITH HOMELESS CHILDREN

Did you know that 1 in every 45 children in the U.S will go to sleep without a home this year? Horizons for Homeless Children is seeking fun-loving, dependable people to interact and play with children living in family homeless shelters and domestic violence shelters throughout Western Massachusetts. A commitment of 2 hours a week is required for at least 6 months or 1 semester if you are a student. Day and evening hours are available. Trainings are held regularly and are listed on our website. Our next Training will be held on Wednesday June 12^th and Thursday June 13^th, from 6:00pm-8:30pm in Springfield. EANE Mock Employment Law Trial

On Tuesday, June 18th at the Western New England University School of Law, Moot

Courtroom, EANE will hold its annual Mock Employment Law Trial for employers,

involving a court case of an employee issue. This year EANE and attorneys from the

law firm of Skoler, Abbott & Presser, P.C. will walk through common arguments and

issues of a Sex Discrimination/Facebook Case, that every employer should hear. At this

Mock Trial attendees will be able to listen to the “facts”, gain insight into strategies of the

Plaintiff and defendant, and participate as a member of the jury.

The Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4133 in West Warren,MA, will be holding a Second Annual Ride for the Local Needy, July 13,2013. Donation is $20.00 per bike and $10.00 for passenger. There will be raffles including a fifty-fifty. Food, drink and a good time. Also with talented sounds of the band Reckless from 3-6pm.
