Dr. Heilman received his undergraduate education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2003 graduating with Distinction. Prior to joining the Balin Eye and Laser Center, he was awarded an Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship leading him to serve four years of active duty in the Unites States Navy. While in the Navy, he functioned as Chairman of Optometric Services at the Naval Health Clinic in Great Lakes, IL and was an Adjunt Clinical Professor for the Illinois College of Optometry.

Dr. Heilman specializes in comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens fitting, and ocular disease management. He also works closely with Dr. Balin in the co-management of cataract and refractive surgery, diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and neurologic and vascular diseases of the eye.
